A pin attempt and a submission hold need different responses. First identify the prompt shown in the current match and the control settings active in that mode.

Check the win conditions

Review the match rules before assuming a rope break, pin or submission can end the contest. 2K's match-type guide distinguishes formats with different victory conditions, including Falls Count Anywhere. Practice defense in the match type you intend to play.

Learn the active pin prompt

Use a simple local match and have a partner attempt a pin. Read the on-screen instruction, then repeat with the same Superstars and comparable damage. Change one setting only after you understand the current prompt. Do not combine an older game's tutorial with the new mode's display.

Practice submission defense separately

Use the current tutorial and follow the indicated defensive action for the hold. Watch the full state of the exchange instead of applying a pin-kickout habit to a submission. Repeat one hold before testing another so you can recognize what changed.

Confirm settings after switching modes

2K's support tracker recorded an issue in which timed-pin slider adjustments in Showcase did not carry into a normal match. That report does not establish the behavior on every later patch. It is a reason to verify the actual settings in the destination mode rather than assuming the previous mode's values are active.

Distinguish difficulty from a malfunction

  • Record platform, game version and match type.
  • Note which defensive prompt appeared and what input you attempted.
  • Check whether the problem repeats with an ordinary pin or only a specific move.
  • Compare the symptom with official live issues and patch notes.

Keep the setup consistent while testing. This guide does not offer a guaranteed escape from every finish; it helps establish that you are practicing the correct mechanic under the intended rules and settings.
