Gran Turismo 7 Tire Strategy: Compounds, Wear & Wet Conditions
Read the event's tire rules before choosing a starting compound. The correct strategy depends on the race distance, wear setting, weather and any required compound use.
Understand the dry-compound tradeoff
Gran Turismo's official strategy guide describes Soft, Medium and Hard race tires: softer dry compounds provide more grip but wear faster. The best first lap is therefore not automatically the best full-race choice.
Check wear and fuel settings
The manual's Quick Menu can show tire wear, fuel consumption and acceptable tire types. GT7 can use accelerated rates, so do not copy a pit lap from a race with different multipliers or conditions.
Recognize wet-tire roles
The official guide distinguishes Intermediate tires for damp or lighter-rain conditions and Heavy Wet tires for heavy rain. Read how the track is changing instead of changing tires solely because rain has begun or stopped.
Build a short stint test
- Use the intended race car and comparable conditions.
- Run enough laps to observe a wear trend.
- Track consistency and control as the stint develops.
- Compare another permitted compound under the same setup.
If lap times deteriorate, check whether the cause is wear, a changing surface or driving errors before assigning all of it to the tire choice.
Plan the pit decision
Compare staying out with the time and risk of stopping. Consider where you will rejoin traffic and what remains to complete under the rules. A strategy copied from a qualifying lap cannot answer those race questions.
There is no universal pit lap in this guide. Use your event's displayed restrictions and a tested stint to choose a plan you can execute.
