Destiny 2 Inventory Guide: Vault Choices, Collections & Item Safety
Separate equipment you actively use from alternatives you are keeping for a specific build. An organized Vault is easier to review when every retained item has a reason.
Use Collections carefully
Bungie's inventory guidance distinguishes the Vault from Collections and limits which items can be reacquired. Do not assume that discovering a weapon means its exact randomized roll can be recreated after dismantling. Inspect the actual Collections entry first.
Make room before a long activity
Check the relevant character's equipment categories and move retained alternatives to the Vault. Keep the weapons needed for the next activity available. Do not use an overflow destination as permanent storage for valuable equipment.
Compare duplicates deliberately
- Read the perks and intended role.
- Compare the duplicate with the version you actually use.
- Keep a clearly different useful role if needed.
- Review the choice before dismantling.
A higher number alone does not establish that one roll replaces another. Preserve equipment tied to a build until you have checked what the change would remove.
Check current capacity and economy
Use the limits and currencies shown in your game. The older Bungie inventory article includes historical capacity and material references, so this guide does not reproduce those numbers as current rules. The current Guardian guide also identifies Vault access as the place for retained gear.
Confirm an irreversible action
Bungie warns that lost or discarded items are not replaced through ordinary support. Pause at the final dismantle decision, especially for a unique reward or roll. Keep the cleanup focused on items you understand rather than clearing a large category by assumption.
