God of War Ragnarok Boss Learning: Ring Cues, Openings & Recovery
Use early attempts to learn the boss's sequence rather than trying to maximize damage on every opening. The first useful improvement is recognizing which attack is coming and choosing the correct kind of defense.
Read the attack warnings
PlayStation's combat guide distinguishes yellow-ring guard-breaking attacks, which can be parried, from red-ring attacks that cannot be blocked or parried. Double-blue-ring attacks require a different interruption response; follow the shield-strike lesson rather than treating the blue warning as an ordinary block cue.
Separate a sequence from its apparent pause
Watch whether the boss continues after the first swing. Do not commit to a long attack until you have seen where the sequence actually ends. Record the cue for the final action instead of counting on one fixed rhythm.
Use short responses while learning
After a successful defense, attempt a compact attack and return to a ready position. Extend the follow-up only once you know the available recovery window. A smaller clean exchange can teach more than a high-damage trade that leaves the next pattern unclear.
Learn the phase change
When the boss adds a new action, pause the old damage plan and inspect what changed: reach, timing, follow-ups or arena hazards. Keep a defensive fallback while identifying the new opening.
Adjust the build to a specific problem
- If long animations get interrupted, test a shorter attack.
- If you lose track of a follow-up, focus on the full sequence.
- If the encounter is consistently overwhelming, review equipment and upgrades before repeating unchanged attempts.
Change one variable so the next attempt answers a question. This guide explains how to learn an encounter; it is not a boss-by-boss move list or a promise that a particular Runic attack interrupts every enemy.
