Choose a recurring gameplay problem before opening the talent menu. The useful next talent is the one that improves an action you can recognize and perform in the encounters you are facing.

Start from your current spell and tool set

List the options you already use reliably and the situations where they fail. Compare the talent descriptions with that problem. An upgrade for an action you rarely attempt may be less useful than one that strengthens your everyday response.

Check prerequisites and the actual benefit

Read the locked or available node in your version of the game. Note the requirement and what changes after purchase. Keep resource costs and access restrictions separate from the question of whether the effect fits your preferred approach.

Test a coherent small change

  1. Pick the combat or exploration problem.
  2. Select the relevant talent you can unlock.
  3. Practice the action it modifies.
  4. Compare the result in a familiar situation.

Do not scatter points simply to fill visible branches. Keep a reason for each purchase so a later rebuild has a clear purpose.

Use the updated reset system

WB's June 2024 updates added talent point reset functionality across the documented platforms, including a separate Switch update. Older advice that talents can never be reset is therefore incomplete. Inspect the current reset screen and its displayed cost before confirming.

Rebuild to solve a specific limitation

Before resetting, write down the talents you intend to replace and the benefits you want instead. Make sure the planned rebuild supports the spells and tools currently available to you. A reset creates a chance to change the plan; it does not automatically teach the new sequence.

This guide does not prescribe one universal best tree or invent exact point totals, level thresholds and reset prices.
