Inspect the world rules before a long trip
Pocketpair documents configurable death penalties and Hardcore rules on dedicated servers. Find out what your current world uses before assuming death only costs time. A recovery plan copied from another world may not fit the consequences in yours.
Prepare the party for the route
Check the Pals and equipment you actually brought, then choose a destination you can attempt with them. Leave room to recover if the encounter becomes harder than expected. Do not turn a routine supply trip into an unplanned boss attempt simply because you see one nearby.
Check the return method
The official server configuration includes options controlling fast travel, including a base-to-base restriction. Confirm what is available in your world before planning a route around a return you cannot use. Keep a navigable alternative when an assumption has not been checked.
Watch resources as well as distance
Check remaining recovery supplies and available carrying space before extending the route. Return with useful progress when continuing would put the entire trip at risk. A shorter successful expedition can support the next upgrade better than a long recovery mission.
Keep settings advice within your authority
These configuration examples explain why worlds differ; you do not need administrator access to follow the planning advice. Ask the host when a rule is unclear. This page does not recommend changing someone else's server or promise items can always be recovered after death.
