Breath of the Wild Exploration Safety: Weather, Food & Return Routes

Prepare for the environment as well as the enemies. A trip can fail because of temperature, a storm or a poor climbing route even when you have enough weapons for a fight.

Check the weather and clothing

Nintendo's guidance explains that clothing and cooked food can help with temperature and that metal equipment can attract lightning during a storm. Read the current conditions and equipment warnings before climbing into an exposed area.

Cook for the journey

Cooking combines ingredients into dishes with effects such as temporary cold or heat resistance. Read the resulting meal effect and duration instead of assuming every cooked dish serves the same purpose. Carry ordinary recovery food as well as the specific protection your route needs.

Break a long route into safe stages

  1. Choose the next tower, shrine, stable or settlement to reach.
  2. Inspect the terrain between your current position and that point.
  3. Look for places to stop before beginning a long climb.
  4. Keep a fallback route if the weather or your supplies change.

If the next section uses most of your preparation before you reach its midpoint, turn the trip into a scouting run. Mark the obstacle and return rather than treating retreat as lost progress.

Separate curiosity from commitment

Observe an enemy camp or unfamiliar landmark before walking into it. Decide whether it is necessary for the journey you planned. A useful discovery can be a map note for later; you do not need to spend the whole loadout on every place you find.

Recheck before leaving shelter

Confirm food, temperature protection, a usable weapon and the next landmark. Nintendo's game overview identifies stables as places to rest and prepare food or Elixirs. Use the stop to address what the previous leg consumed before beginning another one.

This page focuses on ordinary travel preparation. It does not present one meal recipe or armor set as sufficient for every temperature, storm and encounter in Hyrule.
