Honkai: Star Rail combat: Skill Points, weaknesses and Ultimates

A practical way to diagnose a team that runs out of Skill Points or loses control of the turn order.

Read the encounter before choosing an attack

Inspect the enemies’ displayed weaknesses and the action order. Weakness matching and ordinary health damage are related but different considerations; a strong attack does not always move the toughness bar in the way you need. Focus on a dangerous enemy when splitting damage would let it take another disruptive turn. Recheck the order after a break or an ability changes the situation.

Budget shared Skill Points

A team needs enough characters generating points to support the members that consume them. If the intended damage dealer repeatedly cannot use a Skill, inspect what the supports are doing on their turns. Some effects do not need refreshing every turn. Read the current kit rather than applying a universal rule: exceptional characters can change costs or use their own resources. The useful question is whether your whole rotation remains sustainable over several turns.

Choose an Ultimate window

An Ultimate can be available between ordinary turns. Before activating it, consider whether a buff, debuff or imminent break would improve its effect, or whether immediate healing is more valuable than holding it. Confirm the selected target and any required confirmation prompt. Auto-battle is useful for familiar farming, but manual decisions make it easier to understand why a difficult attempt fails.

Diagnose one failure at a time

If someone is defeated, determine whether the problem was an unhandled enemy mechanic, weak sustain, missing upgrades or spending healing at the wrong moment. If the timer is the problem, inspect damage windows, target choice and wasted support actions. Change one part of the team or equipment and repeat a comparable fight. That comparison gives you evidence; replacing the entire party at once makes it hard to tell which change helped. Consult the character’s current tutorial when an unfamiliar Path or special mechanic changes these expectations.
