Choose weapons for the activity, not only for the largest displayed Power value. The loadout needs a plan for common enemies, dangerous targets and the damage opportunity the encounter creates.

Separate slot from ammo type

Bungie's current Guardian guide explains that the first two slots can contain Primary or Special ammo weapons, while the third is the Heavy slot. Primary ammo is unlimited; Special and Heavy are limited. Read the actual weapon's ammo icon instead of assuming a category name always tells the whole story.

Assign each equipped weapon a job

Pick a comfortable option for routine enemies, a way to address a priority threat and a resource plan for the encounter's important damage window. Check whether the combination leaves a distance or target type you cannot handle.

Match the current activity requirements

Read the launch modifiers and encounter instructions. Coordinate any required role with the team before locking the loadout. A weapon that works in a patrol does not automatically satisfy the activity's restrictions or mechanics.

Inspect perks in context

Read what activates the perk and how often your intended play actually meets that condition. Test the weapon under those conditions rather than judging it only from a general tier list. Keep a usable alternative for an encounter with a different range or target mix.

Review the ammunition problem

  1. Identify which target consumed the limited ammo.
  2. Check whether another tool could handle it.
  3. Preserve the intended resource for the important phase.
  4. Reassess after completing the encounter.

This is a loadout-planning guide. Exact damage rankings, seasonal perks and ammunition economy changes should be checked against the current activity and weapon descriptions.
