Read the exact item effect
Before purchasing or using an item, read its description in the current game. Establish whether its benefit affects movement, another player or a different part of the turn. Do not assume an item with a familiar name behaves identically to one from another Mario Party release.
Check the board before committing
Nintendo highlights changing tides on Goomba Lagoon and trains in Western Land. Factor the current board state into the route you want the item to create. A movement benefit is less useful if the destination or path no longer matches the plan.
Compare two possible turns
Imagine the next turn with and without the item. What useful destination becomes reachable, what uncertainty remains and what money would be left? A clear answer is more useful than buying an item solely because it sounds powerful.
Keep enough time to use the benefit
Look at the remaining turns and when an effect can matter. Saving everything for later can leave a useful tool unused, while spending immediately can waste an opportunity that would become clearer after other players act.
Use the ruleset you selected
Nintendo describes Pro Rules as including an item choice before play. Keep that starting choice separate from assumptions about normal board shopping. Follow the active descriptions for exact prices, restrictions and timing rather than applying an unverified universal item ranking.
