Check which currency a shop item uses before planning a purchase. Super Mario Odyssey's regional coins belong to the kingdom where you collect them; they are not a single interchangeable balance across the whole journey.

Separate local collection from general spending

Nintendo describes regional coins as usable only in their home kingdom, with shops offering outfits and souvenirs. When you revisit a kingdom, compare its available purchases with the local coins you have collected instead of assuming a large general coin total covers them.

Give each purchase a purpose

• Check the item, currency and price shown in the current shop.
• Prioritize the purchase tied to the goal you are pursuing.
• Leave purely cosmetic purchases for a later return if another item matters more to you now.
• Track remaining regional coins as a collection task, not only a spending balance.

Collect along a route

Choose a checkpoint or landmark and inspect one nearby section thoroughly. Look around corners, above the direct route and behind structures before moving to the next section. This makes revisits more systematic than repeatedly running through the kingdom's main path.

Combine coin searches with movement practice

If a group of coins is difficult to reach, first identify a safe approach and landing. Practice the movement without treating every attempt as a race. A detour that also teaches a useful route can be worthwhile even when it does not immediately complete the collection.

Keep Moons and shopping distinct

Power Moons fuel the Odyssey's travel. Coins support a different set of purchases and collection goals, so a shopping trip does not automatically solve the kingdom's Moon objective. If you are trying to move the story forward, check what the Odyssey currently needs before spending time on a full cosmetic sweep.
