Favorite essentials before sorting

The Official Terraria Wiki describes favoriting as protection against dropping, quick trashing, Quick Stack to Nearby Chests and inventory sorting. On desktop, Alt plus the Use/Attack action toggles the favorite state. Other interfaces provide a Favorite action. Manual placement in the trash can still remove a favorited item.

A practical return-to-base routine

  1. Check that your main weapon, tools and supplies are favorited.
  2. Use Quick Stack to Nearby Chests for repeat materials you already organize in storage.
  3. Review anything left over before moving it manually.
  4. Replace the supplies you used on the trip.
  5. Leave empty slots for the next destination.

This is our suggested routine. Test the controls with an ordinary stack before moving valuable equipment.

Choose chest categories you can remember

Start with a few clear groups: building blocks, ores and bars, crafting ingredients, equipment, and boss supplies. Keep a temporary “sort next” chest for unfamiliar finds, then review it instead of letting it become permanent mixed storage.

Separate travel gear from crafting reserves

Before mining, carry the tools and resources you actually expect to use. Before a boss attempt, arrange the equipment and consumables you need for that fight. A consistent hotbar is easier to use under pressure than one that changes after every sorting session.

Check suspicious items before discarding

If you do not recognize a material, look up its crafting uses before clearing it out. Keep the supplies for your next known upgrade in a deliberate place. Do not treat favoriting as a backup system; review an item before any manual trash action.

Improve the storage room gradually

When one chest becomes difficult to search, split that category rather than rebuilding the entire base. Put the most frequently used categories near your usual crafting area and keep a repeatable route through the room.
