Use a clear room-search routine, distinguish story navigation from pickup scans, and check the documented PlayStation accessibility controls.
The Last of Us Part II Exploration: Finding Supplies & Navigation Help
Search for supplies without losing the route
Choose what you need before detouring: supplies, an unexplored room or the story route. Our suggested routine is to identify the entrance and exit, search one side of the room, then cross-check the opposite side. Keeping a repeatable pattern makes it easier to notice a corner you skipped.
This is a spoiler-light exploration method, not a complete collectible-location checklist. A successful scan or a room search does not by itself establish that you have obtained every collectible in the chapter.
Story navigation and pickup scans do different jobs
Naughty Dog documents Navigation Assistance for orienting toward story progression, while Enhanced Listen Mode can scan for items or enemies. In its published PlayStation control scheme, holding R1 enters Listen Mode; with Enhanced Listen Mode enabled, Circle scans for items and Square scans for enemies. Navigation Assistance uses L3; in Listen Mode it can point toward the most recently scanned target.
Those are the documented PlayStation inputs. Remapped controllers and PC bindings must be checked against the actions in your own control menu. Do not treat a console button label as a universal keyboard shortcut.
A practical exploration pass
- Observe threats before looking through a room.
- Pick a visible starting landmark, such as the doorway you entered.
- Search a consistent route rather than repeatedly crossing the same space.
- If using assistance, decide whether you need story direction or a pickup scan.
- Review the room once, then continue when further searching no longer serves your goal.
That sequence is GetCheatBeacon advice. You can shorten it during urgent encounters or slow it down when the area is safe. Avoid treating a checklist as a reason to ignore nearby enemies.
Adjust assistance to the problem
The official accessibility documentation includes scan-range and scan-time settings, traversal cues, and customizable controls. Try the relevant option before changing several unrelated settings. If you hear a cue without understanding it, consult the game's audio-cue glossary.
Our recommendation is to test a change in a familiar area. Compare whether it helps you identify an item, distinguish a route or perform an interaction. Keep settings that solve your actual difficulty; assistance does not need to be an all-or-nothing choice.
For encounters that interrupt exploration, use our Last of Us Part II guide collection for stealth, combat and crafting priorities.
