Choose a route through the encounter before taking the first shot. Identify the objective, the enemies who can see the route and a second position you can move toward if the first one becomes unsafe.
Observe before committing
Use the information available under your current difficulty and accessibility settings. Naughty Dog's guide explains that awareness indicators can show impending detection and direction; stealth difficulty also changes enemy perception. Do not assume another player's route has the same detection margin as yours.
Use prone movement carefully
The PlayStation hands-on report describes prone movement and tall grass as stealth tools, while warning that patrol dogs can follow a scent trail. Grass is an opportunity to change your approach, not a promise that every nearby enemy will lose you.
Move after exposing the position
After a shot or a visible takedown, inspect the enemy response before repeating the same action. Change position when the route is safe and watch for a flanking angle. Do not let aiming at one target erase your awareness of the others.
Give a consumable a clear job
Choose a tool to create the opening you need: pass a watched route, separate enemies or recover space. Check the item and supplies you actually have rather than copying a late-game loadout. For planning those resources, see the crafting guide.
Diagnose a failed attempt
- Identify when you were first detected or hit.
- Check the sightline or sound that exposed the route.
- Choose one different timing or position.
- Repeat with the same settings to see whether that change helped.
If the control or cue itself is difficult to read, inspect the game's accessibility options. The goal is a clear, repeatable response to the encounter, not a claim that one stealth path or weapon combination guarantees a flawless clear.
