Breath of the Wild Weapon Management: Durability, Backups & Utility

Breath of the Wild expects you to replace equipment. Nintendo's game overview explains that weapons wear out and that you can obtain more from the world and enemies. Build a loadout you can use instead of saving every useful weapon indefinitely.

Carry different jobs, not only high numbers

Inspect the weapons you actually have room for. Keep an everyday combat option, a stronger choice for a difficult encounter and useful alternatives for the environment. Several copies of a similar tool can be less flexible than a varied set.

Spend durability on a reason

Before attacking a camp, decide what you want from it: equipment, supplies or a route through. Compare the likely gain with the fight you are starting. A weak enemy group does not automatically require your strongest weapon, while a dangerous fight may be the right time to use it.

Plan for the break before it happens

Check the next weapon you will equip before committing to a longer battle. If your preferred option is nearly worn out, choose a place to switch where you can still defend. Do not wait until the enemy is already attacking to discover the backup is unsuitable for the situation.

Use the surroundings

Look for a way to change the encounter before trading repeated swings: positioning, terrain and available Rune interactions can matter. Nintendo's overview specifically includes explosives among Link's combat options. Try the approach in a manageable situation before depending on it in a difficult one.

Review the inventory after a trip

  • Replace a missing everyday weapon before a long journey.
  • Keep equipment that serves a distinct purpose.
  • Compare new finds with what you actually use.
  • Leave enough flexibility to pick up a useful replacement.

This is a planning method for normal exploration and combat. It does not claim an exact durability total for every weapon or that any ordinary weapon can be repaired through a universal menu.
