Warframe Beginner Guide: Star Chart, Mods, Weapons & Progression
Warframe contains years of systems, but Digital Extremes' official new-player guide gives a clear early path: choose starting equipment, complete Vor's Prize, learn the Orbiter, progress through the Star Chart and strengthen your equipment through Mods.
Choose Starting Equipment
Your first equipment includes a Warframe and weapons.
Digital Extremes notes that options you do not choose initially can still be obtained later, so do not treat the first selection as a permanent lockout.
Complete Vor's Prize
Vor's Prize is the introductory Quest.
It teaches important systems including:
- The Arsenal.
- Mods.
- Mission progression.
- Your early equipment.
Learn the Orbiter
Your Orbiter is your main hub.
Use it to:
- Manage equipment.
- Select Missions.
- Upgrade Mods.
- Access crafting and progression systems as they unlock.
Follow the Star Chart
Digital Extremes' current new-player guide recommends completing Mission nodes and Junctions to open more of the Origin System.
Junctions
Junction progression can unlock:
- New planets or regions.
- Quests.
- Resources.
- Additional rewards and systems.
Do Not Rush Past Mods
Digital Extremes describes Mods as the single most important way to raise your power.
Leveling equipment without installing useful Mods leaves much of its potential unused.
Equip Mods to Capacity
Check every Warframe and weapon you actively use.
Do not leave large amounts of available Mod Capacity unused while missions become harder.
Learn Bullet Jump
Digital Extremes identifies Bullet Jump as one of Warframe's primary movement mechanics.
Movement is part of survival.
Practice combining:
- Bullet Jump.
- Running.
- Sliding.
- Normal jumps.
Keep Moving in Combat
Warframe rewards mobility.
Do not stand still trading damage when movement can reduce the number of attacks reaching you.
Weapons
You can carry different weapon categories, typically giving you options for:
- Primary combat.
- Secondary combat.
- Melee.
Try New Weapons
Warframe contains a large Arsenal.
Testing new equipment helps you:
- Find preferred weapon styles.
- Increase equipment experience.
- Progress toward Mastery Rank.
Crafting
Digital Extremes' new-player guide explains that resources collected during Missions are used to craft Warframes and weapons from blueprints.
Gather Resources Naturally
Explore Mission tiles enough to collect useful resources, Mods and containers without turning every beginner mission into an exhaustive search.
Mastery Rank
Leveling Warframes and weapons contributes toward overall Mastery progression.
Higher Mastery Ranks unlock additional equipment and systems.
Do Not Use Only One Maxed Weapon Forever
Once you are comfortable, leveling additional equipment helps expand both your options and Mastery progression.
Quests
Main Story Quests unlock major parts of Warframe.
When unsure what to do next, check:
- Available Quests.
- Star Chart progression.
- The next Junction requirements.
Squads
Warframe supports squads of up to four Tenno.
Playing with others can make difficult Missions easier and exposes you to different Warframes and strategies.
Do Not Depend Entirely on Teammates
Use cooperative Missions as a chance to learn rather than simply following faster players without understanding the objective.
Nightwave
Digital Extremes' current beginner guide identifies Nightwave as a source of daily and weekly challenges and useful progression rewards.
Treat it as additional progression rather than abandoning Star Chart advancement entirely.
Companions
Warframe supports several types of Companions that can assist in combat and utility.
You do not need to optimize this system immediately, but it becomes another useful part of your loadout.
Open Worlds
Open Landscapes are available, but they are only one part of Warframe.
If an open-world activity feels too difficult, return to:
- Star Chart progression.
- Mod upgrades.
- Quests.
- Equipment leveling.
Beginner Progression Routine
- Complete Vor's Prize.
- Learn the Orbiter and Arsenal.
- Equip useful Mods.
- Progress through Star Chart nodes.
- Complete Junction requirements.
- Craft and level new weapons.
- Follow available Story Quests.
- Improve builds as mission difficulty rises.
Common Beginner Mistakes
- Ignoring Mods.
- Remaining on early planets with no progression goal.
- Standing still during combat.
- Using one weapon forever.
- Entering harder content before upgrading equipment.
- Trying to understand every system simultaneously.
Bottom Line
Warframe becomes manageable when you follow the progression spine. Complete Vor's Prize, advance through the Star Chart and Junctions, equip and upgrade Mods, craft additional equipment and follow Story Quests as they become available.
