Tears of the Kingdom Map and Shrine Guide: Hyrule, Sky Islands & Depths
TEARS OF THE KINGDOM MAP AND SHRINE GUIDE
Tears of the Kingdom spreads exploration across several major layers of Hyrule.
Good map planning makes it easier to find shrines, travel routes, useful resources, Lightroots, and locations worth returning to later.
THE SURFACE
The Surface contains towns, roads, stables, ruins, caves, shrines, quests, and many of the locations players will revisit regularly.
When exploring a new area:
• Look for useful travel points
• Mark caves and unusual landmarks
• Check nearby roads and settlements
• Activate shrines when you find them
• Keep notes on locations you want to revisit
SKY ISLANDS
Sky Islands create a second exploration layer above Hyrule.
Before launching toward an island, consider:
• Your available stamina
• Nearby launch points
• Possible landing areas
• Whether you can return safely
• What route might connect several islands
THE DEPTHS
The Depths are darker and more dangerous than many Surface areas.
Lightroots are especially important because they reveal parts of the underground map and create valuable navigation points.
Prepare for gloom and limited visibility before traveling far from known routes.
SHRINES
Shrines provide challenges, progression opportunities, and fast-travel locations.
Even if you do not want to complete a shrine immediately, activating useful travel points can make later exploration easier.
MAP MARKERS
Use map markers to remember:
• Shrines
• Caves
• Bosses
• Resource locations
• Unfinished puzzles
• Important NPCs
• Areas you want to revisit
LIGHTROOTS
In the Depths, Lightroots help reveal terrain and reduce the difficulty of navigating in darkness.
Connecting Surface and Depths knowledge can make exploration more efficient.
TRAVEL MEDALLION
Nintendo notes that the Travel Medallion can be placed in many locations and later used as a fast-travel point.
This can be especially useful before dangerous experiments or when exploring difficult-to-reach locations.
EXPLORATION PLANNING
Before setting out, decide what your current goal is:
• Find shrines
• Reveal map areas
• Search for armor
• Gather materials
• Explore caves
• Complete a quest
• Reach a Sky Island
• Explore the Depths
A clear goal prevents long trips from turning into random wandering.
COMMON MAP MISTAKES
• Ignoring useful travel points
• Entering the Depths without enough preparation
• Forgetting to mark unfinished locations
• Traveling too far without supplies
• Assuming every area must be completed immediately
• Failing to revisit major hubs after progression changes
QUICK MAP CHECKLIST
• Activate shrines.
• Reveal useful map areas.
• Mark points of interest.
• Unlock Lightroots in the Depths.
• Keep enough food and supplies.
• Use fast travel intelligently.
• Return to unfinished areas when stronger.
