Black Ops 7 Zombies Guide: Survival, Upgrades & Longer Runs
Black Ops 7 Zombies is built around surviving escalating waves while improving your weapons, equipment, and character power. Strong runs depend on more than raw aim: you need to manage Essence, collect Salvage, control space, upgrade at the right time, and avoid spending resources without a plan.
Know Your Starting Zombies Loadout
Your Zombies loadout includes:
- Primary Weapon
- Melee Weapon
- Field Upgrade
- Tactical and Lethal equipment
- GobbleGum Pack
Your starting equipment begins at low power compared with what you can build during a run, so think of the opening rounds as the foundation rather than your finished setup.
Essence: Your Main Spending Currency
Essence is the primary currency used throughout a Zombies match. You earn it during play and spend it on weapons, Perks, equipment, and other upgrades.
Killing zombies is the most common way to earn Essence. Call of Duty's official guide notes that critical-point kills, normally headshots, can provide bonus Essence.
That makes accurate early-round shooting useful for two reasons: enemies are easier to manage and your economy develops faster.
Salvage Is Different From Essence
Salvage is a separate resource. Rather than being awarded automatically for every kill, it can drop onto the ground and must be collected.
Because Salvage is less common and supports powerful upgrades, avoid spending it automatically the moment you have enough for something. Decide which upgrade will solve the biggest problem in your current run.
Keep Moving and Preserve Escape Routes
Zombies becomes much more dangerous when enemies surround you. Avoid fighting from positions with only one exit unless you know the area can be held safely.
When entering a new space, identify:
- Where enemies can enter.
- Where you can retreat.
- Which obstacles can trap your movement.
- Where important purchases and upgrades are located.
Good movement keeps small positioning errors from turning into a lost run.
Upgrade Before Damage Falls Behind
As rounds increase, enemies become harder to kill. If your weapon takes too long to clear ordinary zombies, you are spending more ammunition, creating larger crowds, and increasing the amount of time you remain exposed.
Do not wait for your weapon to become completely ineffective before investing in damage progression.
Weapon Rarity Matters
Black Ops 7 Zombies includes weapon rarity progression. Your starting equipment is not the ceiling of your build.
When evaluating a weapon, consider its current power and upgrade state rather than assuming an early pickup will remain effective indefinitely.
Use Perks to Support Your Weaknesses
Perks are part of your in-match progression. Instead of purchasing every option without thought, use them to reinforce the way you are playing.
If your main problem is survival, prioritize upgrades that help keep you alive. If your movement and defense are stable but kills are becoming slow, your next spending decisions should improve offensive power.
Field Upgrades Are Part of Your Survival Plan
Your Field Upgrade is selected as part of your starting loadout. Treat it as a tactical resource rather than a button you press simply because it is available.
Know what situation you want your Field Upgrade to solve: escaping pressure, supporting teammates, controlling a dangerous area, or recovering when a wave starts to collapse.
GobbleGums
Black Ops 7 Zombies includes GobbleGums as part of the loadout system. Build your GobbleGum Pack with a purpose rather than filling it with effects you are unlikely to use.
A balanced pack should complement the kind of run you are attempting and cover problems your normal loadout cannot solve easily.
Do Not Waste Early Resources
The opening rounds are usually easier than later rounds, making them the best time to establish your economy.
Common resource mistakes include:
- Replacing weapons repeatedly instead of upgrading a dependable setup.
- Spending Salvage on low-priority upgrades.
- Buying items without leaving enough resources for your next power increase.
- Using limited tactical tools on enemies you could safely defeat without them.
Critical Kills Improve Efficiency
Headshots and other critical-point kills are valuable because they eliminate enemies efficiently and can provide additional Essence.
Practice keeping your aim at common zombie head height instead of constantly dragging your aim upward from the ground.
Main Quest vs Survival
Round-Based Zombies supports both survival and narrative objectives. If you are attempting a Main Quest, communicate your objective with teammates so one player is not spending resources on quest progression while everyone else plays only for high rounds.
Team Play
In a squad, avoid dragging large groups of enemies through another player's route without warning. Leave teammates room to maneuver, communicate major purchases or objectives, and revive only when the approach is reasonably safe.
Long-Run Survival Checklist
- Build Essence efficiently with regular and critical kills.
- Pick up Salvage whenever it is safe.
- Maintain an escape route.
- Upgrade damage before your weapon falls far behind.
- Use Perks and Field Upgrades to cover specific weaknesses.
- Carry Tactical and Lethal equipment for high-pressure moments.
- Coordinate Main Quest objectives with your squad.
- Do not spend rare resources without knowing what problem the purchase solves.
Bottom Line
Long Zombies runs are built on economy and positioning. Essence powers your regular purchases, Salvage supports important upgrades, and your loadout gives you the starting tools. Keep your damage progression ahead of the enemy curve, maintain room to move, and spend resources according to the next threat rather than the easiest item to buy.
