Gears of War: E-Day Horde Siege Missions, Energy and Weapon Upgrades
# Gears of War: E-Day — Horde Siege Missions and Upgrades
Horde Siege is a 12-player cooperative mode where three COG squads fight through changing missions across Kalona. Understanding objectives, shared resources, Weapon Parts and extraction makes a difference to your progression.
## Choose the Right Mission Playlist
There are three documented mission playlists.
Blitz features one or two objectives and typically lasts about 15–20 minutes. It offers a shorter session when you cannot commit to a longer match.
Siege features multiple objectives and more movement across the map. Matches generally last around 20–40 minutes.
Horde focuses on defending a position through ten increasingly difficult waves with limited support. These missions can take around 50–60 minutes.
These are developer-stated approximate durations, not guaranteed completion times.
## Understand the Five R.I.G. Objectives
R.I.G. stands for Resonation Imaging Geographer. These devices map underground Locust activity.
Secure requires squads to remove Locust occupying a critical area.
Calibrate requires defending zones near a R.I.G. while calibration progresses.
Repair involves collecting scattered components and reinstalling them to restore a damaged R.I.G.
Defend requires protecting an active R.I.G. during its mapping sequence.
Horde involves protecting a R.I.G. from ten waves of attackers.
Before investing resources, identify whether your current objective requires moving, collecting parts or holding a position.
## Complete Secondary Objectives
Optional objectives can provide Weapon Parts, equipment or Squad Perks.
Examples include defusing Locust explosives, defeating high-value targets, recovering COG intelligence and delivering Power Cores to another squad.
These tasks can strengthen the team, but they also consume attention and carry risk.
Prioritize the main objective when survival is uncertain. Attempt secondary objectives when your squad can safely spare the time and equipment.
## Understand Energy
Completing objectives and defeating enemies earns Energy for a shared squad pool.
Although Energy is collected collectively, individual players make their own purchases.
Supply Caches offer equipment, weapons and Squad Perk upgrades. Available choices depend on class progression and previously unlocked modifications.
Energy can also fund defensive turret installations at eligible locations. Some turrets can be detached and used as heavy weapons.
A practical approach is to examine the next objective before spending resources. Equipment appropriate for a fixed defense may not be ideal for a mission requiring extensive movement.
## Weapon Parts and Extraction
Weapon Parts are used to unlock Weapon Mods after those mods become available through class progression.
The critical rule is that at least one squad member must extract successfully for the squad to retain Weapon Parts collected during a mission.
This makes extraction an essential progression objective, not merely the ending of the match.
Avoid sacrificing the entire squad for an optional reward when valuable Weapon Parts are at risk.
## Class Levels and Mods
Each class has 30 levels of progression at launch.
Class advancement unlocks equipment, weapons, Armor Mods, Tactical Gear Mods and Weapon Mods.
Armor Mods can adjust attributes such as health, ammunition capacity or weapon swapping.
Tactical Gear Mods can improve cooldowns, range or additional equipment effects.
Weapon Mods modify weapon functionality and can be shared between classes using the same weapon.
The official developer example includes adding a bayonet to a Gnasher.
## Squad Survival and Revives
A defeated player drops COG tags. Squadmates can collect those tags and deliver them to a Supply Cache for revival.
Players from other squads may also collect the tags and revive the defeated soldier immediately.
A complete squad wipe consumes a Squad Life. Losing all available Squad Lives causes mission failure, though partial XP can still be awarded.
Coordinate revives and avoid unnecessary squad wipes, particularly late in difficult missions.
## Progression Strategy
Start with a playlist suitable for the time available.
Learn each objective type before increasing difficulty.
Use secondary objectives to earn additional resources when conditions allow.
Invest Energy based on the immediate tactical requirements.
Collect Weapon Parts, then prioritize successful extraction.
Apply unlocked mods to your preferred weapons and equipment.
These are tactical recommendations derived from the documented systems, not guaranteed fastest XP or currency farming methods.
