# Gears of War: E-Day Combat and Weapons Guide E-Day rebuilds the signature Gears combat experience around movement, cover, weapons and enemy encounters. The official gameplay update describes modernized traversal and aiming while preserving the importance of tactical positioning. ## Cover and Positioning Cover remains one of the defining elements of combat. E-Day supports a wider variety of cover types, heights and interactions than earlier entries. Players should evaluate available protection, enemy lines of fire and escape routes before moving between positions. Cover can help with defense, but remaining stationary against advancing enemies is not always effective. ## Movement and Traversal The gameplay systems have been rebuilt to support more fluid movement and additional verticality. Learning to transition between protected positions is essential across Campaign, Horde Siege and Versus. Use training opportunities to become comfortable with cover transitions and movement controls. ## Aiming and Projectiles E-Day includes revised weapon behavior and projectile ballistics. Projectile travel means aiming mechanics may depend on weapon characteristics and distance. The official gameplay update also discusses sniper-scope sway. Practice precision weapons separately from close-range equipment, since their handling differs. ## Shoulder Swapping Shoulder swapping while aiming is part of the updated combat system. This can help with visibility and positioning when fighting around different pieces of cover. Experiment with this mechanic in training to understand when each camera position provides better awareness. ## Smoke Grenades Smoke can interfere with enemy sightlines. It is useful to understand how obscured vision changes movement and engagement opportunities. Do not assume smoke provides physical protection from incoming fire. ## Heavy Weapons Some heavy weapons can be detached and used within the combat sandbox. Their handling differs from standard equipment, making positioning and exposure important considerations. ## Weapon Mods E-Day introduces weapon modifications that can affect weapon handling and functionality. In Horde Siege, Weapon Mods unlock through class progression and are purchased using Weapon Parts. Some modifications make smaller adjustments, while others can produce substantial changes. The developer guide gives attaching a bayonet to the Gnasher as an example. ## Armor and Tactical Gear Mods Armor Mods can improve statistics such as health, ammunition reserves and weapon-swap speed. Tactical Gear Mods can alter class-specific equipment, including range, cooldowns and additional effects. The best modification choices depend on the class, mission, available unlocks and player preferences. ## Weapon Parts and Extraction Weapon Parts collected during Horde Siege are not automatically retained. At least one member of the squad must successfully extract to keep the Weapon Parts collected during the mission. This makes surviving extraction especially important when farming upgrades. ## Practical Combat Priorities 1. Learn the cover system before relying on aggressive advances. 2. Practice aiming and movement with your preferred weapons. 3. Adapt weapon choices to engagement distance. 4. Coordinate class equipment during Horde Siege. 5. Prioritize successful extraction when carrying valuable Weapon Parts. 6. Review current equipment descriptions before assuming a modification changes damage or cooldowns by a particular amount. Exact weapon statistics and modification values are not included unless independently verified. Official sources: E-Day Gameplay Updates and Multiplayer Deep Dive.
