League of Legends Team-Fight Guide: Engage, Follow-Up & Protection
Identify Your Champion's Job in This Fight
Riot explains that champions have distinct kits and that the team advances through structures toward the enemy Nexus. GetCheatBeacon recommends judging a fight by what it helps the team accomplish. Chasing the most distant target is not automatically the correct job for every champion or every situation.
Choose a useful responsibility
| Responsibility | Question before acting |
|---|---|
| Start an engagement | Can teammates reach the opening you intend to create? |
| Follow an engagement | Is the target accessible without leaving the rest of the team unsupported? |
| Protect a teammate | Which threat is preventing that player from contributing? |
| Hold damage for a later moment | What condition makes the intended target safe enough to approach? |
These are editorial role questions, not official class assignments. A champion may need a different responsibility when the available teammates, resources or enemy threats change.
Separate access from ambition
Before moving toward a high-value opponent, consider which enemies can reach you and whether your own team can respond. An ideal target is not a useful target if the route makes you unable to act. Read the actual positions instead of assuming the team will follow through any terrain or distance.
Connect combat with the map
After the fight, look for the useful next action rather than continuing a chase automatically. Which structure or neutral objective is reachable? Which lane needs attention? The purpose of a combat advantage is the action it enables, not simply another opportunity to remain fighting.
Review one job that went unfilled
Look for the teammate who could not contribute and ask whether your decision could have changed that. This is more actionable than labeling the entire composition bad after a single fight. No champion damage threshold, cooldown table or current patch-specific combo is asserted here.
Use the objective guide to prepare the location and ranked review routine to carry the lesson into future matches.
