Decide what the fight is for
Before entering, identify the position or objective you want afterward. A chase away from that area can separate the team without improving its next move. Count the teammates who can actually arrive, rather than everyone who is alive somewhere on the map.
Give the initiation a follow-up
The player who starts should know which teammate can add damage or control. Let that teammate reach a usable position first. If your job is to follow, stay close enough to act without standing on the same vulnerable approach as the initiator.
Track the threat to your own role
A backline hero may need to preserve space against an enemy who bypasses the front line. A hero protecting a teammate should watch that threat instead of joining every chase. Keep an escape direction in mind before spending the ability or item that would make retreat possible.
Use the death to diagnose the sequence
Valve describes a Dota Plus Death Summary with a timeline of incoming damage and disabling effects. It belongs to the paid service. If available, use it to distinguish a missed defensive activation from being caught before you could act; otherwise review the sequence through your own replay or recollection.
Convert the advantage together
After a favorable exchange, call one useful action the surviving group can complete. Reassess health, resources and missing opponents before extending. Review whether a lost fight began with poor information, late follow-up or an unnecessary second commitment rather than treating every defeat as a damage problem.
