Read the Conversation as Well as the Roll

PlayStation's BG3 introduction explains that d20 rolls help determine checks and that more than the die itself affects the result. Look at the skill or ability named in the prompt and the modifiers the game displays. Do not assume that the character who is strongest in combat is the best fit for every conversation.

Before choosing a checked response

  1. Read what the response actually says rather than choosing only by the skill label.
  2. Look at the displayed target and available bonuses.
  3. Consider what the character and party are trying to achieve in this conversation.
  4. Accept that an uncertain roll is not a promise of success.

Those are GetCheatBeacon's decision prompts. They do not establish a hidden formula or guarantee that one dialogue choice leads to the best ending. Checks, story conditions and consequences vary by scene.

Use dialogue history when you lose the thread

Larian's controller article describes opening Dialogue History during a conversation. Review what the speaker has already said when you need context. This is especially useful in a long session or when several players have been exploring independently. Read the current platform controls rather than assuming one button combination applies to every input device.

Plan your party's social approach

PlayStation's class overview identifies high-Charisma characters such as Bards as having social strengths. That does not mean changing class is required to experience the story, nor does it mean a particular class automatically succeeds. Choose a character whose abilities fit the approach you want, then read the actual check offered.

A failed check can be part of the story

The official introduction notes that failure can lead to another path rather than ending the game. Decide whether you want to follow that outcome instead of assuming every imperfect roll needs to be erased. If you are playing a mode with stricter save rules, understand those restrictions before committing to the run.

For spoiler-light preparation, keep notes about the decision you intended to make, not a copied list of supposedly correct answers. This page intentionally does not promise outcomes for named quests. See the inventory guide for organizing items separately from conversation decisions.
