Brawl Stars Gem Grab Guide: Mid Control, Gem Carrier & Team Play
Gem Grab is a team mode where control matters more than chasing eliminations. Winning teams collect gems while keeping enough map pressure that the enemy cannot freely reach the gem mine or the player carrying the majority of the team's gems.
Control the Middle
The gem mine is usually the most important area of the map.
Your team does not need all three players standing directly on top of it, but you should create enough pressure that the opponent cannot walk into the center uncontested.
Use Lanes
Instead of stacking all three players in one place, spread enough to contest several angles.
Useful lane play:
- Prevents easy flanks.
- Creates crossfire.
- Protects the gem carrier.
- Makes it harder for one enemy attack to hit the entire team.
Choose a Gem Carrier
Once one teammate holds several gems, that player becomes strategically important.
A good gem carrier should generally:
- Stay alive reliably.
- Avoid unnecessary close-range fights.
- Position behind teammates when appropriate.
- Keep an escape route available.
Do Not Split Gems Without a Reason
Several players can collect gems, but constantly spreading them across the entire team can make protection more complicated.
If one player already has most of the team's gems and is positioned safely, teammates can focus more heavily on creating space.
Protect the Carrier
If your teammate is carrying the bulk of the gems, do not abandon them to chase a low-health enemy across the map.
Use pressure to:
- Block approaching enemies.
- Force opponents behind cover.
- Control flanking routes.
Do Not Overextend for One Gem
A gem in dangerous enemy territory is not automatically worth dying for.
If collecting it would leave you surrounded or expose your gem carrier, wait for a safer opportunity.
Use Cover
Walls and bushes can help:
- Break enemy fire.
- Control sightlines.
- Create safer routes for the gem carrier.
Know Your Brawler's Range
Different Brawlers contribute to Gem Grab in different ways.
A long-range Brawler may control an open lane, while a close-range Brawler may pressure enemies from cover or threaten flanks.
Do Not Force Every Brawler Into the Same Job
Your team is stronger when each Brawler plays around their actual strengths.
Think in roles such as:
- Mid control.
- Lane pressure.
- Gem carrying.
- Flanking.
- Area denial.
Use Supers Deliberately
Do not spend a Super simply because it is ready.
High-value uses include:
- Winning control of the center.
- Saving the gem carrier.
- Removing an enemy carrying many gems.
- Stopping a final push.
Prioritize the Enemy Gem Carrier
If an opponent holds most of their team's gems, eliminating that player can completely change the match.
However, do not send all three teammates through a bad angle and lose your own gems in the process.
When You Take the Lead
Once your team has enough gems to create a winning countdown, the goal changes.
You no longer need to fight for every additional gem.
Instead:
- Move the gem carrier toward safer territory.
- Control the approaches.
- Do not feed the enemy easy eliminations.
Do Not Retreat Too Early
If the entire team immediately runs backward while the enemy still controls the middle, they may gain enough space to chase the carrier freely.
Teammates without most of the gems should continue creating pressure while the carrier moves to safety.
When You Are Behind
If the opponent begins a winning countdown, focus on the player carrying the required gems.
A normal elimination on another opponent may not matter if the carrier remains safe.
Respawn Discipline
Do not run back into a lost fight one player at a time.
When possible, regroup and re-enter together so the enemy cannot repeatedly defeat isolated players.
Gem Grab Routine
- Take control of useful lanes.
- Pressure the center.
- Collect gems without overextending.
- Protect the player holding most gems.
- Use Supers to win key moments.
- Retreat intelligently once the countdown begins.
Common Gem Grab Mistakes
- All three players crowding the same lane.
- The gem carrier chasing eliminations.
- Dying for one unsafe gem.
- Ignoring the enemy carrier.
- Using every Super immediately.
- Running into the enemy one player at a time.
Bottom Line
Gem Grab is a control mode. Hold useful lanes, keep pressure around the mine and protect the player carrying your team's gems. Once the winning countdown begins, survival and positioning become more important than collecting one more gem.
