Brawl Stars Team Composition Guide: Lanes, Roles & Objectives

Start with the objective

Choose a team for the mode and map before choosing a favorite combination. Ask who controls the central space, who pressures each side, and who can protect a teammate when an opponent engages. A balanced team needs useful coverage, not necessarily three different class labels.

Divide the map into lanes

Spread into separate approaches so opponents cannot damage or trap the whole team at once. Win or hold your lane before helping the next one. When an enemy retreats or is defeated, use the space to pressure another angle rather than chasing into their spawn. Lane assignments can change after terrain is destroyed or an objective moves.

Match range to the map

Open sightlines favor reliable long-range pressure. Walls create opportunities for lobbed attacks, bounces and close approaches. Heavy bushes increase the value of scouting and ambush awareness. Do not send three short-range Brawlers into a map where none can reach the enemy safely, or three fragile ranged Brawlers into a team that can repeatedly engage them.

Give each teammate a job

One player can focus on holding central space, another on winning a side, and another on protecting or enabling the objective holder. These jobs are tactical recommendations rather than official class requirements. Support healing, shields and movement can help allies maintain pressure, but teammates still need to move into useful positions.

Gem Grab: protect the carrier

Decide who collects the central gems. The carrier should prioritize survival and avoid unnecessary trades when carrying the team’s objective. Side players create space and block approaches. When your team starts its countdown, retreat into defensible positions without stacking so tightly that one enemy Super catches everyone.

Brawl Ball: create a scoring route

Pressure the defenders before carrying the ball into them. Keep someone able to contest a counterattack instead of sending every teammate forward. Wall destruction can open a route, but it can also remove cover your team needs. Use knockback, control and movement to create a clear moment to pass or score; do not assume winning a damage trade automatically creates a goal.

Knockout: value survival

A lost teammate reduces the team’s remaining options. Use crossfire and cover, avoid isolated engagements, and reposition as the playable space narrows. A player with useful range should not give up that advantage by walking into a close-range duel. Save an escape or defensive ability when it is the only reliable answer to an enemy engage.

Hot Zone and Heist: pressure with purpose

In Hot Zone, fighting away from the zone is useful only if it helps your team occupy or defend it. In Heist, balance safe damage with defense; an uncontested attacker can undo a winning fight elsewhere. Check the current mode rules before relying on an old burst-damage strategy, since the safe and mode modifiers can change.

Coordinate cooldowns and Supers

Do not spend every defensive tool in the same exchange. A control Super can set up a teammate’s damage or an objective play. Communicate when a mobility or protective Gadget is unavailable. Hypercharges and Buffies may alter the effect, so read the teammate’s equipped build rather than assuming the base version.

Review the loss

After a match, identify one concrete failure: an unprotected carrier, a lane left open, an unnecessary chase, or no answer to an enemy engage. Change a tactic or one roster slot that addresses that failure. A universal tier list cannot replace decisions about your map, mode, equipment and team.
