Start with the cards you actually use
List the cards in the deck you play consistently and identify where a level difference repeatedly affects an exchange. Improve a useful card with a clear role before spreading limited resources across several speculative decks.
Use the current progression screen
Supercell's May 2026 progression announcement replaces King's Journey and XP with new Collection-related progression and card-upgrade requirements for King Tower levels. Do not follow an old recommendation to upgrade random cards solely to farm XP without checking the changed system.
Read the next requirement precisely
The publisher distinguishes required numbers of cards at the relevant levels and excludes Tower Troops from that King Tower requirement. Check your actual next requirement rather than assuming a familiar old King Level unlock table is still valid.
Compare the upgrade with the deck role
A key damage plan or frequently used defensive answer may deserve priority over a card that rarely enters a match. Review the current card description and the exchanges you see rather than relying on a permanent rarity ranking.
