Stardew Valley Gifts & Friendship: Loved Gifts and Birthday Rules
Choose a gift for the person receiving it
Each villager has individual gift preferences. A loved gift gives a larger base friendship increase than a liked one, while disliked and hated gifts can lower friendship. Do not assume that the most valuable item in your bag is the best present.
Useful loved-gift examples
| Villager | Loved gift examples | Planning suggestion |
|---|---|---|
| Abigail | Amethyst, Pumpkin, Chocolate Cake | Keep an Amethyst when mining if she is a friendship priority. |
| Leah | Salad, Goat Cheese, Truffle, Wine | Choose an item your current farm can replace easily. |
| Shane | Hot Pepper, Pizza, Pepper Poppers | Reserve a suitable crop or meal before selling your supplies. |
| Sebastian | Frozen Tear, Obsidian, Sashimi, Void Egg | A spare Frozen Tear can fit a mining-focused routine. |
These are examples from each villager's reference page, not a complete list of every villager or preference. The planning column is GetCheatBeacon advice.
Daily, weekly and birthday limits
Normally you may give a villager one gift per day and two per week. The gifting week starts on Sunday. A birthday gift is allowed even when the usual two weekly gifts have already been given. Birthdays multiply the gift's friendship effect by eight, so check the preference before handing over an unwanted item.
Use the Social tab's gift checkboxes and Gift Log to track what you have already learned and given. Spouses and special items have their own rules; do not apply the ordinary two-gift limit to every relationship situation.
Make a simple weekly route
Our recommendation is to choose two or three friendship priorities, keep suitable gifts in a marked chest, and combine visits with trips you already make. That is easier to maintain than trying to reach every villager every day. On a birthday, take the intended gift out of storage before starting a long mine or fishing trip.
If an interaction disappoints you, record the actual recipient and item rather than guessing that all villagers share the same preference. Save rare resources for their other uses when an affordable loved alternative is available. Friendship planning should support your farm rather than turn every day into an expensive shopping run.
