Rainbow Six Siege Beginner Guide: Operators, Intel, Maps & Team Play
Rainbow Six Siege Beginner Guide: Operators, Intel, Maps & Team Play
Rainbow Six Siege is a tactical 5v5 shooter built around Attackers assaulting a fortified Defender position. Gun skill matters, but information, map knowledge, Operator utility and objective timing are just as important.
Learn the Round Structure
Both sides have different responsibilities.
Attackers
Attackers scout, enter the map, clear Defender positions and complete the objective.
Defenders
Defenders fortify the objective area, gather intel and delay or stop the attacking team.
Operators
Each Operator has:
- A side: Attacker or Defender.
- A unique gadget.
- Specific weapon and equipment choices.
Learn a small number of simple Operators first.
Do Not Choose Only for the Gun
An Operator’s gadget may contribute more to the team than a weapon you personally prefer.
Ask what your squad is missing:
- Breach capability.
- Intel.
- Anti-gadget utility.
- Entry denial.
- Support.
Intel Wins Rounds
Before walking through a doorway, try to know what is on the other side.
Attackers use drones. Defenders use cameras and Operator-specific tools.
Learn the Maps Gradually
Map knowledge includes:
- Objective locations.
- Staircases.
- Common entry routes.
- Destructible walls and floors.
- Rotation paths.
Use Training Tools
Ubisoft currently provides several ways to practice outside normal PvP.
These include:
- Tutorials.
- Versus AI.
- Map Training.
- Shooting Range.
Versus AI
Versus AI supports both attacking and defending, allowing you to practice full-round concepts against bots before relying entirely on live matches.
Shooting Range
Use the Shooting Range to test:
- Recoil.
- Weapons.
- Attachments.
- Different engagement distances.
Do Not Sprint Everywhere
Siege is a sound-sensitive game.
Sprinting can reveal your approach and reduce the time you have to react to an enemy already holding an angle.
Use Destruction
Walls, floors and ceilings are tactical tools.
Destruction can create:
- New entry routes.
- Lines of sight.
- Vertical pressure.
- Rotations.
Do Not Peek Everything
If the enemy must enter your angle or complete the objective, forcing an unnecessary gunfight can throw away your advantage.
Communicate Simply
Useful callouts answer:
- Where is the enemy?
- Which direction are they moving?
- What important utility is present?
Objective Before Kills
Eliminating the entire enemy team ends a round, but Siege remains an objective game.
Do not forget:
- Planting or defending the objective.
- The round timer.
- Whether the enemy can win without taking another gunfight.
Beginner Routine
- Complete Tutorials.
- Practice several simple Operators.
- Use Versus AI to learn attacking and defending.
- Use Map Training to learn routes.
- Test weapons in the Shooting Range.
- Use drones or cameras before taking risks.
- Play the objective and communicate.
Common Beginner Mistakes
- Sprinting through unknown rooms.
- Ignoring drones or cameras.
- Choosing Operators only for weapons.
- Ignoring the objective timer.
- Trying to learn every Operator at once.
- Refusing to use the training modes.
Bottom Line
Rainbow Six Siege becomes easier when you stop treating it like a standard run-and-gun shooter. Learn a few Operators, gather intel before moving, understand the map and use destruction and utility to create favorable fights instead of relying on reaction speed alone.
