Check the character and allow story time to pass

Rockstar says some GTA V Story Mode missions only appear for a particular protagonist. Try playing as Franklin, Michael and Trevor for a while. Some markers also require in-game time to pass. Rockstar specifically identifies Surveying the Score, Bury the Hatchet and Deep Inside among the reported cases.

Move while waiting for a call

Some missions start through phone calls. Rockstar notes that calls may not arrive in certain locations, so change location instead of waiting indefinitely in the same spot.

Try the official save and loading workarounds

One workaround is to load your save, use Quick Save to create a new slot, then load that new save and check the map. Rockstar also reports that taking a taxi and selecting the journey-skip option, which triggers a loading screen, has resolved some progression blocks. Neither is a guaranteed repair.

Keep your earlier saves

If those steps fail, Rockstar says a corrupt save may be responsible and recommends loading an earlier file, including one from before a relevant Title Update. Its support article says corrupt save files cannot be repaired.

A careful troubleshooting order

GetCheatBeacon’s practical checklist keeps each test separate so you can tell what changed:

• Record the last mission you completed and which character you are controlling.
• Check the other protagonists before assuming the marker is missing everywhere.
• Change location and play another activity, then inspect the map again.
• Preserve the earlier save when trying a new-slot workaround.
• If trying an older file, compare its story progress before continuing.

Do not delete your only save to test a progression theory. Keep the problem save and the earlier working file distinguishable. Note the platform, game edition and last completed mission if you need to describe the issue to support; those details make the problem easier to explain.
