Understand Active Duty Operator slots, three Trait trees, MIA recovery, crafting and separate DMZ progression.
Modern Warfare 4 DMZ: FOB, Traits, Crafting & Recovery
Begin at the Forward Operating Base
The FOB is the preparation hub for deployments into Hajin. Its stations cover Orders, Stash and Loadouts, Operators, crafting, boss intel, weapon preparation and deployment. Some stations require DMZ progress before they become usable, so a screenshot of a fully developed FOB does not represent every new account.
Active Duty Operators and Dog Tags
You start with two Active Duty slots; the official guide describes an extra starting slot for eligible Vault Edition owners and another through progression. An Operator is assigned to a slot until dismissed. Their Dog Tag advances separately from your overall DMZ Player Level.
There are three Trait trees: Warfighter, Scout and Survivalist. Dog Tag progression supplies Trait Points, with up to 18 points for an Operator. Choose around a role you intend to play rather than treating every Operator's cosmetic identity as a different class.
What happens when an Operator goes MIA?
An eliminated Operator becomes unavailable until recovered or dismissed. Recovery costs DMZ Cash and preserves their Traits, but their equipment must be replaced. The cost rises with invested Trait Points. Dismissing them starts again with a replacement rather than preserving that development.
Manage the Stash and crafting supplies
The Basic Pack provides eight slots when no better backpack is equipped. Resource materials have their own pouch. The 3D Printer uses recipes and collected materials; early examples include healing items, plate carriers and backpacks. Some later crafting opportunities are single-use, so read the recipe and cost before consuming scarce resources.
Keep the progression systems straight
DMZ Player progression runs from 1 to 70 and unlocks FOB functionality and rewards. XP earned in DMZ also contributes to main Player progression, but Multiplayer XP does not level your DMZ track. An Operator's Dog Tags and Traits are another separate layer. Even a failed exfil can retain earned DMZ XP; that does not mean carried equipment is protected.
A sensible deployment checklist
- Select the intended Active Duty Operator and inspect their gear.
- Track one main objective and check the required items.
- Take equipment you can afford to replace.
- Agree on a destination and an exit plan with your squad.
- Return to the FOB to inspect new station unlocks and replace losses before the next deployment.
