Choose a Position with a Next Step

Blizzard describes Tank, Damage and Support as different team functions. A position should help your hero perform its function without assuming that another player can solve every exposure. GetCheatBeacon recommends checking the angle you want, the threats you reveal yourself to and the route you can take when pressured.

Cover is useful only when you can use it

Before stepping out, identify where you will move if the first exchange goes badly. A nearby wall does not help if your chosen route leaves you unable to reach it. Avoid widening your angle automatically just to keep shooting when the opponent has already changed position.

Read teammate access

Ask whether the teammates whose support you need can actually see or reach the fight. A flanking angle can be valuable, but it creates a separate recovery problem if the rest of the team cannot follow. Do not treat every missed heal as proof that the support player ignored you.

Before committingCheck
Taking an angleWhich enemy positions become able to threaten you?
Following a pushCan you arrive while teammates are still able to act?
Holding a positionWhat changes would make it time to leave?

Review the first exposed moment

In a replay, pause before taking heavy pressure. Determine whether your route, angle or timing removed the option to disengage. A late escape attempt may be the result of an earlier positioning decision. Choose one avoidable exposure to change instead of trying to copy a fixed professional position for every map and composition.

The checks are editorial advice. No exact range, damage breakpoint or current hero balance is asserted. Use team-fight timing to judge when the team can act and ultimate planning to account for larger resources.
