Start with island interactions

Nintendo describes befriending residents through conversation, helping them and giving gifts, with letters and shared island life also part of the experience. This is a social routine rather than a combat-team or equipment system.

A simple resident checklist

  1. Walk a route that passes the residents you want to spend time with.
  2. Read the conversation before choosing an answer; distinguish a request from ordinary dialogue.
  3. If you accept a request, remember who asked and what they need.
  4. Choose gifts with the resident’s personality and the item’s appearance in mind.
  5. Make time for invitations and visits when they fit your play session.

These are our suggestions for making interactions easier to follow. They do not establish a numeric friendship-point formula.

Katrina and friendship

Nintendo’s settled-island guide explains that Katrina can assess your bond with a resident and offers a paid prayer to strengthen it. Check the service and cost in your game before paying. Her service is a separate option from your everyday conversations.

Gifts without a fake guaranteed formula

Before handing over a furnishing or clothing item, decide whether you would enjoy seeing the resident use it. Keep valuable or hard-to-replace collection pieces aside until you are sure. This guide does not claim a specific gift price guarantees a photograph or a fixed number of days guarantees a reward.

Friendship versus recruitment

Getting to know an existing island resident is a different goal from planning space for a new arrival. If you are trying to grow the island, follow the current instructions from Tom Nook and your beginner progression guide; use this page to organize ongoing interactions after residents arrive.
