Use the Turn to Plan Before You Commit

PlayStation's BG3 introduction describes the basic turn as movement, an action and a bonus action. Class features and effects can change what a character can do, so read the resources shown for the selected character. Do not assume moving to a target leaves every other option available.

Preview a useful destination

The following is GetCheatBeacon's combat-planning advice. Before confirming movement, identify the target, the route and the position where the character will finish. A destination can put a melee fighter in reach while leaving a fragile party member exposed to several enemies. Consider both the current attack and the response you are inviting.

Inspect rather than guess

Larian's controller overview describes Examine and a top-down Tactical View on PS5. Use the corresponding tools on your platform to inspect an opponent and understand the space. Terrain, available paths and effects can make an apparently nearby target awkward to reach. Read the current interface rather than relying on a remembered screenshot of a different encounter.

Before movingCheck
Approaching an enemyWhether the route leaves the character able to perform the intended action.
Placing a spell effectThe indicated area and whether allies are inside it.
Moving a back-line casterWhether the new position still supports the intended target and avoids unnecessary exposure.

Keep the next party member in mind

A solo player controls the party's separate decisions. Do not fill a narrow route without considering who needs to move next. Coordinate targets and destinations in co-op so one player does not start a fight while another is still organizing equipment or exploring elsewhere.

After a difficult encounter, use the combat log to identify what actually happened instead of assuming the attack failed because the game ignored you. Compare the intended action with the resources and conditions shown. This guide is a planning framework, not a universal formation or a guarantee against every enemy ability.

See spell-resource planning and inventory organization for preparation before the next encounter.
