Modern Warfare 4: Release, Platforms & Beginner Guide

Modern Warfare 4 is available now

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launched on October 23, 2026. Infinity Ward leads development, with versions for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. It is a separate game from Modern Warfare III, Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7; those games' guides should not be treated as this release's instructions.

Choose your starting mode

  • Campaign: a story about war on the Korean Peninsula and Captain Price's off-book operations. It also contains specified Operator unlocks.
  • Multiplayer: short competitive matches, custom loadouts, objective modes, Gunfight and larger Ground War battles.
  • DMZ: extraction deployments in Hajin, with a Forward Operating Base, equipment risk and individual Active Duty Operators.

A practical first-session plan

  1. Install the content packs for the mode you intend to play and finish any required updates.
  2. Check your active input device and button preset before changing sensitivity.
  3. Use the Firing Range or Proving Grounds to learn movement and test a manageable weapon.
  4. In Multiplayer, learn one objective mode and a few maps before chasing every unlock.
  5. In DMZ, read your deployment objective, protect the resources needed for your next run and plan an exit before adding another task.

Platform and edition checks

PC storefronts include Steam, Battle.net and the Xbox PC app. Check the current official requirements for your hardware and security setup. Nintendo's version supports handheld play, Pro Controller, Joy-Con 2 mouse input and gyro aiming. Do not assume an older Switch copy or a previous-generation console edition is interchangeable with this release.

Vault Edition additions include cosmetic and deployment benefits. An Operator appearance or weapon blueprint is not a cheat code. Read the current offer and ownership requirements before paying for an upgrade.
