Cyberpunk 2077 Stealth Guide: Detection, Quickhacks & Silent Takedowns
Announcement-stage guide, checked October 21, 2026. Check the Update 2.5 rollout overview and your installed game version before using the new features.
Update 2.5 scanning and controller check
The new notes address enemy tagging that also toggles crouching under some control schemes. After updating, check your selected layout before diagnosing an unexpected stance change as a stealth mistake. Use the game's own mapping for any remapped action.
Cyberpunk 2077 Stealth Guide: Detection, Quickhacks & Silent Takedowns
Cyberpunk 2077 supports several stealth approaches, including silent movement, quickhacking, takedowns, suppressed weapons and using the environment to avoid direct combat. The strongest stealth play combines information and positioning rather than relying on one tool.
Scout Before Entering
Before moving into a hostile area, identify:
- Enemy positions.
- Cameras.
- Patrol routes.
- Cover.
- Doors and alternate entrances.
- A safe route out if detection occurs.
Stealth becomes much easier when you know where the next threat is before moving.
Use Cover to Break Sightlines
Move between objects that block enemy vision rather than crossing long open spaces.
When possible, use:
- Walls.
- Vehicles.
- Interior objects.
- Vertical routes.
to reduce the number of enemies who can see the same area.
Crouched Movement
Crouching helps maintain a lower profile while moving through guarded areas.
Do not assume crouching makes you invisible. Enemy facing, distance and line of sight still matter.
Watch Detection Indicators
When an enemy begins noticing you, treat that as time to react rather than permission to keep moving forward.
Possible responses include:
- Return to cover.
- Change route.
- Disable a camera.
- Use a quickhack.
- Wait for the patrol to move.
Cameras Are Part of the Security Network
Cameras can expose your position or provide information about the area.
Deal with them before moving through their sightline.
Depending on your build and available tools, you may be able to:
- Disable them.
- Use them for reconnaissance.
- Move around their field of view.
Quickhacks Support Stealth
Update 2.0 rebuilt Cyberpunk's perk system and made Netrunner builds more focused around meaningful abilities.
Quickhacks can support stealth by helping you:
- Distract enemies.
- Disable devices.
- Manipulate the environment.
- Reduce the need for direct gunfights.
If hacking is central to your playstyle, invest in Intelligence and Netrunner-related progression instead of trying to split heavily across unrelated systems.
Silent Takedowns
When you reach an isolated enemy safely, a silent takedown can remove them without starting a full firefight.
Before committing, check whether:
- Another enemy can see the target.
- A camera covers the area.
- You have somewhere safe to move afterward.
Do Not Remove Enemies in the Wrong Order
An isolated guard is usually safer to remove than one standing in full view of several others.
Clear outside or separated targets first when possible.
Suppressed Weapons
A suppressed weapon can support stealth when a silent takedown is not practical.
Use accurate shots and avoid firing repeatedly into a target if the noise, missed shots or resulting alert can expose you.
Verticality
Cyberpunk 2077 frequently provides alternate routes above, below or around direct entrances.
Look for:
- Stairs.
- Ladders.
- Rooftops.
- Side doors.
- Technical routes your Attributes or cyberware may help access.
Stealth-Oriented Attributes
Cyberpunk's redesigned perk trees make Attributes and Perks part of a coherent build rather than isolated stat boosts.
Stealth-oriented characters often benefit from investment that supports:
- Movement.
- Detection avoidance.
- Precision weapons.
- Netrunning.
- Cyberware capacity.
Choose the branch that supports your actual stealth method instead of spreading points across every Attribute.
Cyberware Can Support Stealth
Update 2.0 made cyberware a major part of character builds.
Cyberware can support stealth through:
- Mobility.
- Defense.
- Hacking.
- Specialized movement.
- Other build-specific bonuses.
Have an Escape Plan
Stealth can fail.
Before moving deep into a hostile area, know:
- Where cover is.
- Where you can retreat.
- Whether another entrance or exit exists.
- Which cyberware or quickhack can help create space.
Do Not Rush After One Successful Takedown
Removing one enemy changes patrol patterns and sightlines.
Pause and rescan the area before moving to the next target.
Stealth Practice Routine
- Scan the area before entering.
- Identify cameras and isolated enemies.
- Choose a route with cover.
- Remove the safest target first.
- Use quickhacks or distractions to create openings.
- Reassess after every takedown.
- Leave through a planned route if detection escalates.
Common Stealth Mistakes
- Crossing open space without checking patrols.
- Ignoring cameras.
- Removing a target visible to multiple enemies.
- Using a suppressed weapon without considering missed shots.
- Investing in several unrelated build paths.
- Continuing deeper after detection begins instead of resetting.
Bottom Line
Cyberpunk 2077 stealth is strongest when you control information. Scout first, use cover, manage cameras, remove isolated enemies and build around the stealth method you actually use. Quickhacks, cyberware and movement all become more useful when they support one coherent approach.
